Hunger Dungeon Review: A Nice Indie Game

Everyone loves Indie games. First, we are supporting the developer/s, second, we are supporting a game which is pretty small, but has nice gameplay. Hunger Dungeon is the game that will make your day fun. Atm, it’s on Early Access on steam which means you will be able to get it too. It’s a nice game where you can cool your head off after a hard day at work.

A Complete Hunger Dungeon Review

Pretty straight, this line cannot be avoided. “Hunger Dungeon” is a 1-6 player round-based Multiplayer Online Battle Arena game. Enter a cutthroat arena with more than ten heroes to choose from such as Nimble Assassin, Goblin Profiteer, Vagrant Ninja, Princess Ranger, Demonic Knight, etc. Unlock unique skills allowing for different tactics to always have the advantage over your opponents! Mix and match Spell Scrolls and equipment between rounds to optimize your build.

The nice thing is that 4-randomly chosen characters are available for each week. Also, there are a lot of items available which are going to be shown in this review. By the way, do not judge this game poorly because it’s a free to play multiplayer game. There is a nice feature when searching for a room; you can choose if you love to explore for a place by region or worldwide.

Gameplay

Overall, it’s an excellent pixel dungeon game. You won’t regret trying it. There are a lot of things to do in it too. There is a single player and also a multiplayer mode. In a single player, you cannot do much, and you are not going to be able to enjoy its fun like in multiplayer. Fighting different human players can make this game a lot of fun. Each hero has a distinct left click and right click spells. The rest is pretty much-buying scrolls and upgrading them to its full power. Reminds me of Path of Exile, even though we are speaking about a big difference.

Items to purchase

There are Equip, Scroll and Medal items available for purchase. The equip items can be fitted with the hero; the scrolls are used as spells. I have never tried nor buy medals. Do not know what they are used to do. Nevertheless, let’s continue forward.

To stay close to the count, at the moment there are 38 Equip Items, 28 Scrolls, and 16 medals to purchase or unlock.

There are 12 different heroes at this moment. As I said, 4 of them comes free every single month while you can buy and unlock the rest. You can even buy the Hunger Dungeon Deluxe Edition. It costs 10.99 euros. This edition gives you full enjoyment of the game without limitations. If you buy it, you will get unlocked all the 12 Hunger Dungeon characters and one individual character skin for each of them.

I can confirm that the game is worth. Every hero has its advantage and disadvantage. You should carefully choose skills and equipment before the match begins. The map plays it’s own role too. The only problem is while you are matchmaking, there seems to be a bug where a lot of people cannot join other servers. But, I am sure it will be fixed fast.

Fighting Bosses

I have never been in a boss fights before, I do not know if they exist, but as we can see in the picture they are…

Graphics

There is not much to say about this. It’s a pixel game, of course, is going to be a little bit blurry. However, the developers made sure the scale ratio works well. You can scale at any resolution plus decide if want to jump in full-screen or not. That’s all we can add.

Sound

I think there might be an improvement in the sound. It’s not that bad, but there is always a room for improvement.

Developers Q&A, Source: Steam

Before the end of this review, I must add this so you can see all the answers by the developers.

Why Early Access?

“The development of Hunger Dungeon is completed to a level that means it’s a fully playable title. We want to put the title into Early Access, however, to see if Hunger Dungeon meets everybody’s expectations and if not, to make sure that feedback from Early Access players goes directly into the game for launch.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Our goal is to launch when the game works perfectly, and we hope that we will achieve that in a short amount of time.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version may have a greater server capacity if we feel it is needed. It may also have skills, items, and weapons, including more detailed descriptions to make sure the game balance is correct.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core game is finished. We’re currently working on refining the server stability and performance and gameplay balance.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“There will be a small change to the price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Our team are continuously looking for feedback and ideas through our community. Regular updates will be made as soon as feedback is received.”

Our Opinion

There is much more to speak about this game and even after 10 hours of writing it will still miss something. Overall, it’s an excellent game that overcomes our expectations.

Our team of gamers decided to give you a little bit of advice while playing this game: Make sure you play with friends. As this game adds a lot of fun when you are gathered and poke each other around. After all, it can be called a game where every friend beats the c*** of every other friend. We made a nice point over here, right?

I am ANGE1K. I started playing video games a long time ago. In a blink of an eye, I became a hardcore gamer. A couple of years later, I traversed to the professional Counter-Strike 1.6 scene. After the competitive ERA, I managed to find the gaming industry amusing and started working on FGR. 8 years after founding FGR, my mission remains the same. That is to discover secrets within the gaming industry, create guides for all the games I play, and provide you with some important news. Oh, yeah, I post tons of patch notes too. At the time, I play everything that seems reasonable to play, make content about it and help gamers to the best of my abilities. P.S. Last time I counted how many hours I've spent in video games turned out to be 13+ years. And that was a long time ago too. Almost 24/7 in front of PC.
