GTA V is the highest earning Digital Console Game of all time earning $1.4B

GTA V is the highest earning digital console of all time. Not just GTA V, but almost every popular console game who tends on releasing DLC pack earns more than 50% of the game’s initial sale. Apparently, every month 75% of console players purchase DLC or additional content. Let’s not forget about the microtransactions the games offer too. It feels like an additional content is a way for success, however, only if your game title is stable, successful, and popular.

Overwatch and Rocket League are just behind GTA V. Game Developing Companies aim to develop additional content to improve the game’s income. In a period of 3 to 6 months, popular video games most likely receive a new DLC.

Below you can find the top 3 games with the highest monthly earnings, thanks to additional content, brought to you by SuperData.

Top 3 console games with the highest monthly revenue

  • Grand Theft Auto V (+ Monthly Average Player Spending)
  • Overwatch
  • Rocket League

This also includes microtransactions, DLC and season passes. Microtransactions seem to fail in single-player, which differs from multiplayer titles where they’re actually increasing the revenue by far. Does this mean that every modern console game will offer DLCs in the future? It definitely seems like it!

Some people find that Additional Content is just a rip-off and they do not approve it. However, whether we like it or not, DLCs will keep on appearing on the market.

I am ANGE1K. I started playing video games a long time ago. In a blink of an eye, I became a hardcore gamer. A couple of years later, I traversed to the professional Counter-Strike 1.6 scene. After the competitive ERA, I managed to find the gaming industry amusing and started working on FGR. 8 years after founding FGR, my mission remains the same. That is to discover secrets within the gaming industry, create guides for all the games I play, and provide you with some important news. Oh, yeah, I post tons of patch notes too. At the time, I play everything that seems reasonable to play, make content about it and help gamers to the best of my abilities. P.S. Last time I counted how many hours I've spent in video games turned out to be 13+ years. And that was a long time ago too. Almost 24/7 in front of PC.
