Niantic is not the Developer of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, Confirmed by the President of Warner Bros

We have some news regarding the new game, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. There have been posted two new topics on Pottermore, sharing with us some information about the game.

As said in the post, Niantic is not the developer of Wizards Unite. The actual developer is Portkey Games. Portkey Games is a new label that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is actually releasing games under.

Portkey Games will bring more Harry Potter mobile and console game experiences in the near future, featuring new and existing characters from J.K Rowling’s Wizarding World.

David Haddad, President of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment said the following:

“With Portkey Games, we are thrilled to answer the fans’ requests for more games inspired by J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World. We are working with talented creators to build games that focus on player-generated stories, which will live alongside the magical universe created by J.K. Rowling.”

To best describe Niantic’s role in the development of the new game is the following:

“A company that builds real-world experiences for mobile games”. The company is only an AR consultant and a map data provider.

“It is wonderful to have Niantic’s remarkable augmented reality expertise as we develop this incredibly rich wizarding world for players to explore in their everyday lives.” – stated Haddad.

According to these statements, Pokemon Go Trainers are not going to be ‘forgotten’ and the game will keep on getting new content until the end of this year. I expect to see 3 more updates (announcements) as follows:

  • Thanksgiving event
  • The launch of Gen 3
  • Improvements to come alongside Gen 3

  1. There seems to be a lot of made-up facts here… Portkey Games is a *Publishing Label* not a developer. WB owns Portkey Games which handles the Harry Potter licensing. Niantic is developing the game.

The President of Warner Bros. did NOT confirm that Niantic is not developing it…he only said that Portkey Games is going to “answer the fans’ requests for more games”. In the case of Wizards Unite, that’s done through Niantic…for other games it will be other developers.
