Middle-Earth: Shadow of War will remove micro-transactions with its next update

Coming as free, Monolith has discovered that this update will permanently erase the Market, meaning no gold and war chests will be available in the game anymore. This is expected to please a lot of players, and give them the chance to enjoy the game purposely, as it was intended to be in first place.

It allows you to miss out on the awesome player stories you would have otherwise created, and it compromises those same stories even if you don’t buy anything. Simply being aware that they are available for purchase reduces the immersion in the world and takes away from the challenge of building your personal army and your fortresses. In order to fully restore the core promise of the Nemesis System, we’ll be permanently removing Gold, War Chests and the Market from Shadow of War.

Monolith will take care of the Shadow Wars campaign, by improving it with new narrative elements and streamlined for more cohesive gameplay experience. It is expected for Monolith to include many other gameplay improvements since this removal will hurt some portion of the fanbase, so it will somewhat compensate for their loss.

The update will be for free for al Shadow of War owners, and the ability to purchase gold will become unavailable on May 8th. However, the total removal of Gold, War Chests and Market will happen on July 17, 2018.

I am ANGE1K. I started playing video games a long time ago. In a blink of an eye, I became a hardcore gamer. A couple of years later, I traversed to the professional Counter-Strike 1.6 scene. After the competitive ERA, I managed to find the gaming industry amusing and started working on FGR. 8 years after founding FGR, my mission remains the same. That is to discover secrets within the gaming industry, create guides for all the games I play, and provide you with some important news. Oh, yeah, I post tons of patch notes too. At the time, I play everything that seems reasonable to play, make content about it and help gamers to the best of my abilities. P.S. Last time I counted how many hours I've spent in video games turned out to be 13+ years. And that was a long time ago too. Almost 24/7 in front of PC.
