Niantic is on a Hunt Again, This Time They Have a ‘Shiny Banhammer’

Trainers, this is just in!

Niantic is on strike again and a new ban wave has gone out, both on iOS and Android. With the new update 0.107.1, Niantic is easily locating the spoofer’s/cheater’s accounts.

So, if you have received the following message – “Your account has been suspended for violating ToS,” it could mean that your account is perma-banned.

Here is what TSR executive Dronpes has to say about the recent ban wave:

Keep in mind that the most common type of ban wave like this we see is for accounts which have made out-of-date API requests. Many 3rd party services make illicit API calls, and don’t always keep up-to-date. This is a beacon to Niantic that the account is accessing the servers in illegitimate ways.

While many spoofers use/have used 3rd party services to make illicit API calls (and hence are often flagged and eventually banned), ban waves for only falsifying GPS have only happened once in my recent memory (on iOS) and targeted one GPS manipulation app: PokeGO++.

Don’t cheat, play fair and you’ll be safe!
