Trainers, the Halloween event is now live, bringing new Field Research tasks, Special research featuring Spiritomb, new cool Halloween avatar items and more.
The Halloween event started on October 23 and will end on November 1. During this period, players will earn 2x catch candy, see increase spawn rate of Ghost/Dark Pokemon and catch more shiny Pokemon.
There are five Halloween Field Research tasks at the moment (it might change) and for each successfully finished task, players will get a reward.
Pokemon Go Halloween Field Research Tasks and Rewards
- Catch 5 Poochyena or Houndour – Sneasel
- Catch 5 Dark-type Pokemon – 500 Stardust
- Catch Ghost-type Pokemon – Sableye
- Evolve 3 Duskull or Shuppet – 1 Rare Candy
- Transfer 10 Pokemon – Misdreavus
In addition, and probably the most exciting news regarding this event is the Special Research a.k.a. A Spooky Message. There are three stages and completing tasks in each stage will grant you a reward.

A Spooky Message Stage 1
- Catch 10 Ghost Type Pokemon – Duskull
- Make 8 Great Throws – 1080 XP
- Use 108 Berries to catch Pokemon – Lickitung
Finishing these tasks will also grant you
- x10 PokeBalls
- x1080 Stardust
- x8 Silver Pinap Berry
Just a tip for those who have more Berries than PokeBalls – the ‘Use 108 Berries’ task can be completed by only throwing berries to a Pokemon, meaning you don’t have to waste PokeBalls and catch it. You’ll be needing those PokeBalls for the next stage, so saving them is a smart option.
A Spooky Message Stage 2
- Catch 10 Dark Type Pokemon – Misdreavus
- Spin 8 PokeStops you haven’t visited before – 1080 XP
- Catch 108 Pokemon – Spiritomb (This is the task I mentioned above – PokeBalls is all you need)
Finishing these quests will grant you the same rewards as Stage 1:
- x10 PokeBalls
- x1080 Stardust
- x8 Silver Pinap Berry
A Spooky Message Stage 3
This is the final stage in which players will receive extra XP, Spiritomb candy and Stardust
- Claiming the three stages will grant you 3×1080 XP = 3,240 XP
- X10 Spiritomb Candy
- X8 Spiritomb Candy
- X1080 Stardust
