Pokemon Go December 2018 Community Day Event Preparation and Infographic Thanks to TSR Community

Trainers, the last Pokemon Go Community Day event is going live starting from November 30 at 1:00 PM PST until December 2 at 11:00 PM PST, and during this event players will have a chance to stock up on every Pokemon from the previous Community Day events in 2018.

Niantic launched the first Community Day back on January 20, 2018, featuring Pikachu as the special Pokemon + exclusive move + bonuses. Until today, Niantic and Pokemon Go ‘launched’ 11 Community Day events, with new Pokemon for each event, their shiny forms and new bonuses. If you want to check out the complete list of all Community Day events in 2018, please see here.

Now, I have been looking for some useful tips and infographics regarding December Community Day event and as usual, the best tips came from the one and only – TSR Reddit community. Big thanks to the guys for doing an awesome job and big thanks to the TSR community for pretty much everything!

Before reading this, please have in mind that the following has been posted on TSR first and you see the PREPARATIONS here and the INFOGRAPHIC here.

Have in mind that the following has been copied from TSR user luxzg and A1MoG. You can’t find a better info online, so my suggestion is to check it out.

Pokemon Go December Community Day event Tips/Preparation

To-do list for ASAP

  • Buy more Pokemon storage, you’ll thank me later; even 1000 free storage can be filled in 50+ hours of this CD, and you will want to keep as many as possible so you can trade (both during and after CD); more storage = more trades = more candy and luckies = higher powerups = better attackers; don’t be shy, max it to new 2000 limit if you have coins!
  • Buy more bag space; same, don’t be afraid to max it, more space = more items = more balls (especially great/ultra) & pinaps = means more catches in less time, for more candy
  • Go through bag and storage and clear the trash items & Pokemon; see above, we want max available bag and storage space
  • Collect and keep Pokeballs and Pinaps (the type of balls depend on personal preference, most Go+/Gotcha users will keep normal red balls, rest should keep Great/Ultraball)
  • Open all 20 gifts every day leading to CD; it will give you some extra balls and pinaps
  • Find a few trading buddies in advance, and agree how to trade next couple of days, as well as during CD; ideally look for people that usually catch in different cells from you, so eg. a neighbor or family member that works / studies in different part of the city, but lives nearby so you can trade in the evening, and get at least +2 candy trades in addition to IV reroll and lucky chance
  • Trade leftovers from previous CDs (or wild catches after it) to get good IVs and/or Lucky Pokemon to evolve during CD
  • Trade all the stuff you can in days before CD, and clear – more – space
  • /u/ThomasWiig: “put more CD mons in gyms before the day starts so you and others get the chance to get candy in advance”

1 day before CD

  • Go through bag and storage (one more time) and clear the trash items & Pokemon before CD starts
  • Charge your gadgets – phone, reserve phone, power banks, Go+, Gotcha, smartwatches and bracelets, make a small pack/bad with all these inside, with accompanying cables and chargers
  • Try to agree with your trading buddies and catching buddies where you will hunt; keep in mind it’s festive season in many cities and your usual hunting grounds may be used for other purposes during the CD weekend and unavailable (or unsuitable) for Pokemon hunting
  • Go get your most comfortable pair of shoes/sneakers 🙂
  • Also, depending on local weather, make sure you dress warmly for the winter or bring enough water if it’s warm outside; always take some snacks with you if you’re out for longer times

On a first CD day

  • Hold off all trading, so you can trade that day’s CD catches in the evening; for Euro/African players that won’t play during those only 1-2 hours of the day, you can disregard this

During CD weekend

  • Always catch and always pinap all Dratini, Larvitar, and Beldum (except odd shiny or high level that you will gold berry instead pinap, to make sure it stays)
  • Secondary pinap use if you have plenty of pinaps and need more of these candies: Bulbasaur, Charmander; everything over 2000 candy is overkill for these two if you come close stop with pinaps
  • If weather boosted, make it a priority to catch Bulbasaur (Clear, Cloudy), Charmander (Clear), Dratini (Windy), Larvitar (Clear, Partly Cloudy), and Beldum (Snow, Windy); do not transfer lvl 30+ specimens even if bad IVs, mark them for trade and IV re-roll !!
  • Only shiny-check, and only when above mentioned aren’t in your range: Squirtle, Pikachu, Eevee, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Mareep; when you have 3 shiny of each (~10 for Eevee), cut down even on shiny checking, and concentrate on meta families

Each CD day at end of day

  • Appraise your catches of the day, don’t transfer anything yet
  • Trade with your trading partner(s), concentrate on high-level & low-IV trades for a chance of high-level luckies or at least high-level + high-IV; always trade meta first (Dratini, Larvitar, and Beldum) and lesser meta next (Bulbasaur, Charmander) so you use your 100 trade limit on best mons; always try to trade same species eg. Beldum for Beldum meta for meta, and always aim for at least +2 candy trade (3 with the transfer if trade ends in low IV) if you have the opportunity; remember, you need just 10.1 km distance for an extra candy (!!)
  • After trade, appraise again and delete everything that did not come out of trades with good IVs; favorite the good ones
  • Transfer non-meta catches (Squirtle, Pikachu, Eevee, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Mareep) if you made any, without trading them first, and make space for the next day; keeping several really high level/IV is OK
  • If you really need more space then first transfer the low level/low IVs of Gen 1 starters (Bulbasaur, Charmander), these nest and even if you don’t get to 2.000 candies during CD you can get more candies later; keeping <10 is good enough as you can always use other attackers in mixed teams (Moltres, Entei, Roserade, etc.)
  • Try not to transfer ANY meta catches (Dratini, Larvitar, Beldum); keep in mind that you may need even more than 2000 candy, the sky is the limit here (!!), and you will want to trade ALL of the surpluses for +2/+3 candy
  • Open your 20 gifts, restocking on balls and pinaps is crucial, no matter how little, everything helps

During the 3-hour bonus period

  • /u/daveundis: “During the 3-hour bonus period, don’t forget to keep star pieces running.” Also, if you care about catch XP, you can add a lucky egg as well

Last hours of CD weekend

  • Leave at least couple hours for final trading, appraisal, and evolutions; keep in mind an average trade can take 45sec (100×45=1h15m to hit the trade limit!), appraising can take additional 20-30 minutes, and evolving 50 Pokemon through 2 evos can take another 30 minutes or so (50x2x20s); total is more than 2 hours to do it all (!!); if your CD ends in late night / early morning, do this in the evening before you go to sleep
  • Trade some more if you can, especially if your CD ends in a new day and you get a reset on 100 trades limit, AND you still need some good specimens for evolutions; up to 1h 15min
  • Appraise EVERYTHING that wasn’t yet appraised; up to 30min (edit: everything, but for those few species that you should evolve before CD ends, don’t appraise the stuff from the “DO NOT EVOLVE” list, you can appraise those days after)
  • Check the amount of candy and your best catches and trades, and choose your potential evolutions
  • Mark your best choices in a way that allows you to just keep evolving them without stopping; eg.rename to Aaa or ## so they are on top and easy to find; see tips below for prioritizing your evos
  • MUST HAVE A TEAM OF 6(+) : Larvitar, Beldum; Smack Down Tyranitar is still best rock attacker (after CP rework, and until Rampardos arrives), while Meteor Mash Metagross is and will stay best steel attacker for a while
  • SUGGEST TO EVOLVE A FEW GOOD ONES: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Dratini; Dratini (Draco Meteor Dragonite) is an edge case where both CD exclusive and normally available move (Outrage) are good, if you want to have legacy move, or don’t have many charge TMs, then evolve during CD, while if you want
  • Outrage and can afford TMs, wait to evolve after CD, as CD evolutions have Draco Meteor GUARANTEED;
  • Charmander/Charizard and Bulbasaur/Venusaur make the top 3 for their respective types, so use the opportunity to round out your fire & grass teams (or even make full teams of these if you like them)
  • CAN EVOLVE SOME, BUT NOT A PRIORITY: Squirtle, Chikorita, Cyndaquil; these are good alternatives when they have CD exclusive moves, but if you have other better water/grass/fire attackers, then you can just evolve one as a trophy (note: CD Bulbasaur evolved to FP Venusaur trumps Chikorita’s evo, CD Charmander evolved to BB Charizard trumps Cyndaquil’s evo)
  • DO NOT EVOLVE (during CD): Pikachu, Eevee, Mareep; all are pretty much waste of time to evolve during CD, and you’ll need to TM if you want their evolutions to be useful at all; if you want or need these evolutions, evolve after CD ends so you get their usual (and more useful) movesets; can evolve one of each for trophies if you want
  • A note about picking your best – some will suggest picking that 98% level 15 Larvitar, and I usually suggest to go for high levels instead; try to pick weather boosted ones (levels 31-35), that are at least over 80%, with attack IV over 12, it will save so much dust, candy (and time) when you get to powering up, for mostly unnoticeable difference in performance (raid battles, gym clearing); eg level 32 13/11/13 sure beats that 15/15/14 level 15 in my books
  • Once you have all your Pokemon chosen and lined up for evolution – pop a lucky egg; this is going to be a small mass evolve, if nothing else, will be most fun mass evolve you ever had 🙂
  • u/Kittycatmeeow17: “before evolving for special CD moves, make sure you have good GPS or are connected to WiFi.”

After CD ends (Fun part)

  • Admire your new Pokemon for a while 🙂 mark them as favorites not to lose them!
  • Go buy a new pair of shoes 😉
  • Now you can trade and evolve those other mons like Eevolutions that have better moves outside CD
  • Make sure you trade all the remaining meta catches (Dratini, Larvitar, Beldum) in the coming days/weeks for extra candy; no need to hurry, go for +3 candy (>100km trades) if you can, your new armies will need lots more candies to get maxed eventually
