We are witnesses to a new partnership, this time between Microsoft and Sony, the companies behind Xbox and PS respectively.
They have built up a plan on sharing technology and information with which they will go forward and build upon the shared infrastructures for some of the future initiatives. In their official announcement they did not mention Xbox and PlayStation, but we believe that this partnership will focus on the gaming platform.
This agreement states that these two big companies will join together in their future developments within Microsoft Azure. They also state that Sony will borrow the works of Microsoft Azure for their own game and content-streaming services, which include a push to build many tools that will get better for content creators.
Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft stated:
Sony has always been a leader in both entertainment and technology, and the collaboration we announced today builds on this history of innovation. Our partnership brings the power of Azure and Azure AI to Sony to deliver new gaming and entertainment experiences for customers.
The president of Sony, Kenichiro Yoshida announced the following:
PlayStation itself came about through the integration of creativity and technology. Our mission is to seamlessly evolve this platform as one that continues to deliver the best and most immersive entertainment experiences, together with a cloud environment that ensures the best possible experience, anytime, anywhere. For many years, Microsoft has been a key business partner for us, though of course the two companies have also been competing in some areas. I believe that our joint development of future cloud solutions will contribute greatly to the advancement of interactive content.
At this moment we do not have any information regarding this joined partnership, but we do expect to see an announcement during this year’s E3. Keep on checking our website for more information.
