Treyarch trolls CoD: Black Ops Cold War data miners

Data miners have always been a core part of the gaming industry. They usually reveal a lot of information (sometimes heavily influenced) regarding upcoming content or even game releases. The latest beta release, Black Ops Cold War, has excited the data miners. In CoD: Black Ops Cold War’s executable, data miners have managed to find links, which upon the excitement of finding lines like Season Config or GODMODE, turned out to be a troll by Treyarch. None of them are even close to a config file. Instead, the URL was a redirect to a youtube video. We won’t tell what it is, but you can check it out for yourself.

If you open the “BlackOpsColdWar.exe” file with any text editor, you may search and find the the following lines:

SEASON_CONFIG:’https://bit.ly/2o3eeGv
PCDEV_GODMODE:’https://bit.ly/2oIWgJ7
LOOTBOXES_CONFIG:’https://bit.ly/2nZomjv
MTX_CONFIG:’https://bit.ly/2nPRcD3

Yep, it seems like we all got Rick Rolled. Once you visit the URL, the address bar also contains something more than just the link to the video. At the end of the URL, you can notice that Treyarch tells you that you’re way too curious once you open the fourth link in the list above.

Treyarch probably knows how to counter data miners the best, which is just a proof of their capability to troll. Are you still going to be way too curious?

The Cold War Black Ops beta is extended for 24 hours, which means it will conclude tomorrow, October 20. For the last day, Treyarch unlocked all of the weapon attachments for everyone so they can tweak their most favorite weapon the way they like without grinding for it. Until then, we may witness a brand new and excessive troll, who knows?

I am ANGE1K. I started playing video games a long time ago. In a blink of an eye, I became a hardcore gamer. A couple of years later, I traversed to the professional Counter-Strike 1.6 scene. After the competitive ERA, I managed to find the gaming industry amusing and started working on FGR. 8 years after founding FGR, my mission remains the same. That is to discover secrets within the gaming industry, create guides for all the games I play, and provide you with some important news. Oh, yeah, I post tons of patch notes too. At the time, I play everything that seems reasonable to play, make content about it and help gamers to the best of my abilities. P.S. Last time I counted how many hours I've spent in video games turned out to be 13+ years. And that was a long time ago too. Almost 24/7 in front of PC.
