Hello, Trainers from Taiwan, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea! This news is just for you, as Niantic decided to host an event called City Spotlight which will allow you to explore your city in a whole different way.
Niantic has made sure that this event complies with the local health and safety guidelines. Starting Sunday, November 22nd, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time, Trainers and their Buddy Pokemon from Tainan, Taiwan; Kyoto, Japan; Auckland, New Zealand and Busan, South Korea will enjoy the individual research tasks and the social-distancing bonuses.
This event offers free and ticketed content. The free content will include the City Spotlight Timed Research, snapshots with Pokemon encounters, Gift stickers that can be obtained through spinning a PokeStop, a PokeStop scanning competition (in which the city that has the most AR Mapping task will win an exclusive event with a ¼ hatch distance bonus), and special reward upon completing an AR Mapping task.
The paid ticket experience will have the whole package of the free content plus encounters with Onix, Lapras, Unown C (plus its shiny version), Nosepass, Rhyhorn, Doduo, Mantine, Pidgey, Pelipper, Pidgeot, and Stoutland. You can have the exclusive City Spotlight Special Research as a guide which, when completed, you can receive a Poffin, an Incense, Super Incubator, 3 Lucky Eggs, Lure Module, an encounter with Lapras, XP, and Stardust. During this event, if you give your Buddy a treat, it will immediately become super excited.
Other bonuses include a ¼ Hatch Distance and increased effectiveness of the Incense during your walk.
If you decide to purchase a ticket, they will be on sale starting Tuesday, November 10th, 2020 at 4:00 p.m PST until Sunday, November 22nd, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. local time. The price of the tickets is $4.99 and they will be sold as first-come-first-served.
Here is the guide on how to purchase it:
- Open the Pokémon GO app.
- On the map, tap the Poké Ball icon.
- Tap Events.
On the following webpage, tap your city’s City Spotlight event. - You’ll see “Tickets Available!” next to a first-come-first-served event if it hasn’t yet sold out. Tap the event to select the date and time you wish to attend the event, purchase tickets for yourself and friends, and input your payment information to complete your purchase. On the payment-confirmation page, please take note of your order ID. You’ll also receive a confirmation email at the address you entered right before the payment.
- A few days before the event, you’ll receive a medal. When you open the app on the event day at the scheduled time, you’ll receive access to the City Spotlight experience, including the Special Research!
- After you’ve obtained the Special Research, you can complete it at any time. Tickets to this event are nonrefundable (subject to applicable law and the exceptions outlined in the Terms of Service).
It is too bad that this event is for a few selected cities, but we hope that Niantic will consider expanding it to other cities. It will be fun to explore other cities in a way we have never experienced before.
