A mistake made by Niantic has allowed some players to see what is in the store for us tomorrow (January 5th, 2021) as the Unova region celebration begins.
The event that will be happening in February, called Pokemon Tour: Kanto, will have this new gameplay included, so think of this as a test for the event. There will be a new profile medal, called Elite Collector, that you will be getting after you complete the challenge.
In this new challenge, there will be a checklist of Pokemon that you need to catch before the event window closes. It appears that you physically have to catch the Pokemon that are in the challenge in order to tick them off the list, which means that trading and evolution will not work. From what is seen, there is not any requirement of using Incubators or Raid passes.
