Pokemon Go The Number of Downloads Jumped to 120 Million in 2020

You may have thought that 2016 was the most successful year for the most popular game Pokemon GO, but we have to tell you that you are wrong.

Even though at launch the game had more than ten million downloads, 2020 was the year where it all changed. The pandemic had just started and lockdowns were imposed all around the world, leaving people locked in their own house. That was the moment that every mobile user turned to mobile games.

The number of downloads during the first pandemic year was 120 million, which was an increase of 5 million as opposed to 2019. Player spending surged too, with an increase of 40% more than 2019, which is over $923 million.

During the first three months of 2021, Pokémon GO generated over $177 million in in-app purchase revenue, and Asia-Pacific accounted for 40% of that value.

With no doubt 2020 was the most profitable year for Pokemon GO. It is interesting to know that the Asia-Pacific region is the most active out of all regions in the world.

Last year compared to 2019, this region spent more than $391 million, which is 43% more than the year before the pandemic started. The second place goes to The Americas with a jump of 41% and the third goes to the EMEA region with 33% more player spending than 2019.
