Pokemon Go Double Gym Distance Trick

When staying home and keeping distance was a thing (and we hope it still is, please be safe and keep your distance), Niantic implemented some features in Pokemon Go that were home-friendly, and catching Pokemon was a total delight.

A change that all players loved was the increased Gym and PokeStop interaction radius. This allowed easier access to daily spins and gifts that were needed to continue the Pokemon Go journey.

Many of us hoped that this would stay in the game forever, but unfortunately, they reduced the PokeStop and Gym interaction distance in the U.S. and New Zealand.

Now, due to New Zealand’s full lockdown, they decided to bring back the increased interaction distance. Unfortunately, they didn’t mention anything about the US players, but hopefully, there will be changes soon.

However, as with everything, even this has a “hack,” if we can call it that.

First and foremost, we have to mention that this is working on iOS devices, as it has not been tested on Android devices.

Here is everything you need to know:

  • The first step is to close the app
  • Then turn off location services
  • Then, open the game and turn back on the location. When you open the app, there should be a pop-up that says to turn back on the location services

This trick should give you double Gym distance. Keep in mind that once you reboot the game, it goes back to normal interaction distance.

Have you tried this trick? Has it worked for you? Tell us in the comments.

  1. Android: Works to double Gym distance. Doesn’t work with pokestops, stops look to work but give no items when spinning them.

  2. I actually came here to see why my phone was doing this. Often turn off GPS and forget to turn it back on until in game. So it does work on android, at least fro me. And I have a cheap phone. Doesn’t work on pokestops, but does on gyms.

  3. Here in the States it worked at a nearby gym. However, it did not work on the Pokestop in the same location.

  4. It did not work for me. The PokeStop did show up but would not let me spin it. It kept saying try again later.
