Pokemon Go Developer Niantic Receives $300 Million Investment

The company behind the famous mobile game Pokemon GO has announced that it received a $300 million investment coming from Coatue, a global investment manager. After this investment, Niantic has its value increased to $9 billion.
As a company that helps the community, Niantic has said that it will be using these funds to invest in the present and future apps, expand the Lightship developer platform and maybe build its version of the Metaverse.
The Lightship platform is a platform where Niantic has enabled developers from all around the globe to test out and/or realize their ideas for AR and the Real-World Metaverse. The partners of the Lightship Platform are Coachella, Historic Royal Palaces, Lifull, the PGA of America, Science Museum Group, Shueisha, SoftBank, the artist JR and Superblue, TRIPP, Universal Pictures, and Warner Music Group.
John Hanke, Niantic’s Founder and CEO has said the following:
“We’re building a future where the real world is overlaid with digital creations, entertainment, and information, making it more magical, fun, and informative. This will take a significant investment of talent, technology, and imagination, and we’re thrilled that Coatue is on this journey with us.”
After the investment was completed, Matt Mazzeo, a General Partner at Coatue has announced:
“Niantic is building a platform for AR based on a 3D map of the world that we believe will play a critical role in the next transition in computing. We are excited to partner with Niantic because we see this infrastructure supporting a metaverse for the real world and helping to power the next evolution of the internet.”
The sun shines high when companies want to invest in the future of talented individuals and help the community.
