Pokemon Go Data Shows Decrease in Release of New Pokemon in 2021, Players got Only 48 New Pokemon

This year is about to end, and it is time to see what Niantic has offered us in terms of new releases, bonuses, items, and everything else. While it might seem that 2021 has been a great year for Pokemon Go, the numbers say the opposite.

There have been many events, cool bonuses, and not a lot of new Pokemon introduced in Pokemon Go in 2021. We’ve decided to focus on how many new Pokemon they’ve released this year and to be honest, it’s not that exciting. PokemonGoFandom keeps a list of all Pokemon released in Pokemon Go over the years, (since 2016), and according to their analysis, this year Niantic and Pokemon Go released 48 new Pokemon in the game.

Every time there is a debut of a new Pokemon, then you know that there is an event going on in the mobile game Pokemon Go, or a celebration of something happening in real life. And the thing is, Niantic does not release two, three or more Pokemon, they just release one. The only exception is the Pokemon Go Holiday event, where we will see two new Pokemon coming into the game. And they become very rare, in terms of wild spawns.

Assuming that this is their intensity, the next generation, Generation 9, will be released around late 2022, or maybe even late 2023. If they keep up like this, they will be releasing around 70 Pokemon per year or 10 to 12 Pokemon per season. The good thing is that the number of Pokemon that will exist in the game will increase up to approximately 1,000.

As a reference, in 2016 they have released 154 new Pokemon, 170 in 2017, 119 in 2018, in 2019 they released 100 new Pokemon, while in 2020, 113 new Pokemon. The disappointment comes this year, where Niantic released only 48 new Pokemon.
