Do not despair, Overwatch 2’s Phone Linking will tackle Smurfs easier

Overwatch fans have been rumbling because of Blizzard’s recent phone-linking announcement for Overwatch 2. Do not despair. It’s done for security purposes and a better player experience. This will also allow new players to learn the ropes easier, as smurfs will be detained and dealt with much easier.

Not that this would be a successful viewpoint in the short run, mainly because everyone has relatives or close friends that do not play games and would lend their phone number for this. But it should help in the long run, as everyone trying this would get capped at some point.

While most players are rebelling against this, let us remind you about Dota 2 and Counter-Strike Global-Offensive. If you want to play ranked matches, you must obey this regulation. Otherwise, you won’t be able to. Not that they do not suffer from smurfs, but if this wasn’t included, their number would be considerably bigger.

According to Activision Blizzard, pre-paid and VOIP numbers won’t be accepted, making it slightly more difficult for the smurfs and account boosters to sink in. With all of this said, for me personally, Overwatch 2 sounds like the right FPS product that would generate a better experience for mediocre players and allow them to enjoy the game without banging their heads against the wall.
