We are still gathering info, so stay tuned.

Previous Story: Trainers, Elite Raids are a new type of Raid Battles introduced in Pokemon Go and the first Pokemon to appear in Elite Raids is Hoopa Unbound. Niantic and Pokemon Go announced that defeating Hoopa Unbound may lead to a surprise. They didn’t reveal any info about the surprise, but it looks like Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres appear in the wild around a Gym for 15 minutes.

Elite Raids are a new, challenging variety of Raid Battles in Pokemon Go and they appear from special Raid Eggs that take 24 hours to hatch. Once the Raid Egg has hatched, a Raid Boss appears for 30 minutes and you can only battle this Raid Boss in person. Hoopa Unbound is the first Pokemon to appear in Elite Raids.

Niantic and Pokemon Go said that players will get a surprise after defeating Hoopa Unbound in Elite Raids, but they didn’t share any info about the surprise.

Now, thanks to the Pokemon Go community and those who defeated Hoopa Unbound in Elite Raids, we know what the surprise is.

Once you defeat Hoopa Unbound in Elite Raids Team Confetti is activated and Kanto Articuno spawns in the wild with a 0.3% base catch rate and a 60% base flee rate. Also, after completing an Elite Raid, a new Social Experiment Map button appears with a 15-minute timer followed by another 15-minute timer. This timer is said to be a timer for the random spawns after defeating the Elite Raid Boss.

  1. I didn’t see any of the 3 legendaries after beating hoopa and I stayed there the whole 30 minutes walking around 🙁

  2. Each time I caught Hoopa new pokemon would show up in my nearby list but would be at a pokestop far away and as I would walk towards it they would flee as soon as I left the radius of the gym I beat Hoopa at. Not sure if this is a glitch but I continued to stay nearby the gym with incense active and saw no rare pokemon spawns. 🙁

  3. We got Cubone, Mr. Mime, Wooloo, and Duskull. Nothing extraordinary. The one time we saw Snorlax we couldn’t reach him without leaving the gym radius & he’d be gone. Disappointing…
