Steam reached 30 million concurrent users online

The number of people playing games online on Steam is astounding. The platform grew from 15 million to 30 in just five years, reaching another considerable milestone this past Sunday.

Digital resellers like Steam notice a hike in players, purchases, or general online usage over the winter or when a pandemic is on the rise. According to SteamDB, the new all-time peak for concurrent users is 30,032,005.

The number of people playing games on Steam has been growing exponentially since 2020, when Covid lockdowns spikes numbers in big waves. While it’s impossible to tell without thorough study, those gaming habits might have stuck far longer than expected.

Valve has done exceptional work in acquiring some of the most excellent video game titles on its platform. With recent deals between them and major publishers, it’s common to see Steam pulling these numbers. Throughout the last week, Steam has been noticing a constant influx of active users, which means that this number might evolve even further.
