Trainers, Niantic and Pokemon Go announced a new event, the Lunar New Year 2023.
Niantic and Pokemon Go are celebrating Lunar New Year 2023 with a new special in-game event, featuring different wild spawns, shiny Pokemon, event bonuses, Timed Research, and other cool stuff.

Lunar New Year 2023 Pokemon Go
- Start/End Date & Time: Thursday, January 19, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. to Monday, January 23, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. local time
- Shiny Darumaka
- Increased chance to encounter Shiny Darumaka
- Increased chance for Lucky Pokémon in trades
- Increased chance to become Lucky Friends
- 2× Stardust from opening Gifts
- One additional Special Trade can be made for a maximum of two per day*
- During the Lunar New Year event, Trainers can choose from several bonuses as a reward for their Timed Research
- Timed Research Lucky Wishes – branched quest
- Different Pokemon in Eggs
- Different Pokemon in Raids
- New Field Research tasks and encounters
- Red Lantern Backpack avatar item
