The reveal comes after a wave of teasers and leaks that had franchise fans eagerly awaiting confirmation. The announcement, made on Thursday, also included unveiling the debut trailer (embedded above), which revealed the release date as September 19, 2023.
The first look at Mortal Kombat 1 showed fans that the title retains the series’ brutal, visceral combat while ushering in a new era of innovation. According to the trailer’s description, the game is set in a “reborn Mortal Kombat Universe created by Fire God Liu Kang.” With a fresh fighting system, new game modes, and a reimagining of the iconic Fatalities, Mortal Kombat 1 promises to redefine the franchise and offer a fresh experience for both long-time fans and newcomers.
Pre-orders for Mortal Kombat 1 open tomorrow, May 19 at 10:00am PT. To reward early adopters, pre-order customers will receive the sorcerer Shang Tsung as a playable character. PlayStation and Xbox players will also receive an additional perk: Beta access available in August, providing an early glimpse into the exciting world of the latest Mortal Kombat installment.
