Pokemon Go Ditto May 2023, Disguises and How to Catch Shiny Ditto

Let’s have a talk about Ditto, the Pokemon that is the evilest in Pokemon Go. Well, not evil, but quite difficult to catch if we are being honest.

Ditto, the Transform Pokemon, has the ability to literally transform into the opponent Pokemon, copying the other Pokemon’s look, moveset, weakness and HP. Yes, this is an ability that no other Pokemon can do, but exactly this ability makes Ditto one of the hardest Pokemon to encounter in Pokemon Go. Since the release of Ditto in Pokemon Go, only a few have managed to find Ditto on their first try, while the rest of us are here still trying to find the purple Pokemon in the wild.

However, Niantic has made the whole process a little bit easier, by releasing a monthly list of which Pokemon can Ditto disguise in. Currently, the odds of finding a Ditto in Pokemon Go are around 3%, while the chances of finding a Shiny Ditto are 1/64.

Keep in mind that if any Pokemon from the list has an available Shiny form in Pokemon Go, and you happen to encounter it, then for sure that Pokemon can’t turn into a Ditto, but there is a slight chance that if you encounter a non-Shiny Pokemon it can turn into a Shiny Ditto. A slight chance, but it is better than no chance.

Here is the list of Ditto disguises for May 2023:

  • Diglett (can be shiny)
  • Grimer (can be shiny)
  • Snubbul (can be shiny)
  • Corphish (can be shiny)
  • Starly (can be shiny)
  • Roggenrola (can be shiny)
  • Tympole (can be shiny)
  • Litleo (can be shiny)

The main question is: How to catch a Ditto? Unfortunately, there isn’t a “hack” on getting a Ditto faster, so it is all down to luck. Keep on catching Pokemon that belong to Ditto’s list of disguises, and one Pokemon might transform into a Ditto. Even better, that Pokemon might transform into a Shiny Ditto.

  1. Just caught one in the form of a Diglet. Got super lucky that I fed it a pineapple before capture. So if I want to power it up I don’t need to use rare candy.
