Pokemon Go Ditto August 2023, Odds of Catching Ditto and Shiny Ditto

Ditto, the Transform Pokemon, holds a special place in the hearts of Pokemon Go Trainers. Known for its unique ability to mimic other Pokemon, Ditto remains a challenging catch for many.

Ditto is a popular Pokemon in Pokemon Go for its secretive nature, and the reasons behind this behavior are clear. Unlike other Pokemon that appear on the map, Ditto hides by disguising itself as other Pokemon. This makes it challenging for Trainers to identify and capture Ditto. Its appeal lies in its remarkable transformation ability, which allows it to mimic the appearance, actions, and moveset of any Pokemon it imitates.

A lot of Pokemon Go players are curious about the current Ditto disguises. As a result, we have taken the initiative to collect accurate information and share it with you. Whenever you come across any of these specific Pokemon, there is a possibility that it may be Ditto in disguise.

Ditto’s disguises for August 2023

  • Diglett
  • Grimer
  • Snubbull
  • Corphish
  • Starly
  • Roggenrola
  • Tympole
  • Litleo

Please note that Ditto will not be visible on the map in its true form. Instead, it will be disguised as one of the Pokemon listed above. Only after catching the Pokemon will you discover if it was actually Ditto in disguise or not.

Shiny Pokemon, including Shiny Ditto, are one of the most desired Pokemon in Pokemon Go. Unfortunately, catching one is a matter of luck and random chance. Unlike some other Shiny Pokemon, there are no known tricks or methods to increase your chances of encountering Shiny Ditto.

While encountering a Pokemon from Ditto’s disguises in August 2023, you may be lucky enough to come across a Shiny version of one of those Pokemon. However, please note that Ditto will not “steal” the Shiny form of a Pokemon, even if that Pokemon is on its disguise list. Nonetheless, a non-Shiny Pokemon from the list has the potential to transform into a Shiny Ditto.

Lastly, the chances of encountering Ditto are approximately 3%, and the chances of catching a Shiny Ditto are 1 in 64.

Have you caught Ditto or Shiny Ditto yet? We’d love to hear about your experiences in the comments below.

  1. I’ve been playing Pokemon Go for a little over three months now and have only caught two dittos. When I caught the first one which I no longer have I didn’t realize just how hard it was to catch one. I just caught my second one back on July 20th and he was disguised as tympole.

  2. I’ve caught a handful of ditto, also got lucky on a trade with my gf for her shiny one and it went lucky, didn’t think that my first lucky shiny would be the lil blue blob of dittr

  3. I’m stuck on 2 research tasks and have been stuck for months because I have to catch a ditto to move forward. I have played every day since the end of March and in that time have caught 8,000 pokemon with no luck. I catch every one of the pokemon mentioned above to increase the odds and still nothing!

    1. Be sure to be out pokemom hunting on April fools day. That’s when dittos spawn rate is increased drastically. It’s almost impossible not to get a ditto. I personally caught 3 this past month (2 days in a row), first one was disguised as a tympole, the second I caught the following day, it was a litleo and it was a shiny ditto, and the third ditto was also a tympole. I did however catch all of them in the evening, not sure if there’s a reason for that. But lately I’ve only been seeing them show up for people disguised as tympoles and litleos, and very rarely a starly. But def tympoles and litleos.

      1. I’ve had the same problem. I never catch dittos. It may just be because where I live isn’t in reach of any Poké-stops, but I catch all the Pokémon I see, and have never caught a ditto. And yes, I have the same quest to catch a ditto. Maybe someone can help me with any tips of catching one faster or increasing my luck (if there are any methods discovered by now.) Thank you!

  4. Been stuck on 2 separate special research tasks for months now because I can’t find a Ditto. Add insult to injury, I’m stuck in another special research task because my area and surrounding larger cities do have any available route. Get it together Niantic!

  5. To everyone who hasnt caught any dittos yet, Be sure to be out pokemom hunting on April fools day. That’s when dittos spawn rate is increased drastically. It’s almost impossible not to get a ditto. With my account, i caught my first 2 dittos a few days before i got the research task to catch a ditto (a mythical discovery task) and after that I spent a couple years unable to locate a ditto. Although I never utilized April fools day during that time period. So fast forward, I purchased the 151 all in one quest, and I needed a platinum kanto medal, which I was lacking because I didn’t possess a mew. You get a mew after completing a mythical discovery. So since I hadn’t been able to track down a ditto that entire time I was stuck. But then my luck took a swift turn, and I personally caught 3 dittos this July (2 days in a row), first one was disguised as a tympole, the second I caught the following day, it was disguised as litleo and it was a shiny ditto, and the third ditto was also a tympole. I did however catch all of them in the evening, not sure if there’s a reason for that. But lately I’ve only been seeing them show up for people disguised as tympoles and litleos, and very rarely a starly. But def tympoles and litleos. Haven’t seen anyone catching dirtos as anything else up on that current list (which has been the sane exact list for months now) but seriously, make it a point to catch every single tympole and litleo, ans starlys just for good measure. But I wouldn’t waste time on the rest. Check out any pokemon trainer group/forum and u will see dittos showing up for many, but only as tympoles, litleos, and the very occasional starly. I’m just super happy I got a shiny ditto, as that’s what I spend most of my time doing is shiny hunting.
