Pokemon Go Support Trying to Hide a Bug by Sharing Incorrect Information, Buddy Walking Grants Guaranteed Mega Energy for Same Evolution Pokemon

Trainers, it appears that there’s an ongoing issue with Niantic support regarding the Mega Energy bug. A player in Pokemon Go recently encountered a problem where they didn’t receive Mega Energy after walking 15km with their Buddy Pokemon, Tyranitar. Upon reaching out to Niantic support for assistance, they were provided with incorrect information.

The support team mistakenly claimed that earning Mega Energy by walking with a Buddy Pokemon from the same Evolutionary line as a previously Mega Evolved Pokemon is not guaranteed. However, the truth is quite the opposite – it is indeed guaranteed.

When you walk with a Buddy Pokemon that belongs to the same Evolutionary line as a Pokemon you have previously Mega Evolved, you are guaranteed to receive Mega Energy. For instance, if you have Mega Evolved a Tyranitar before, walking with a Larvitar as your Buddy Pokemon will certainly grant you Tyranitar Mega Energy.

Thank you for contacting Pokémon GO support.

I understand your concern regarding Mega Energy not being received after making it as Buddy. You can occasionally earn Mega Energy by walking with your Buddy Pokémon if you have previously Mega-Evolved a Pokémon in your Buddy Pokémon’s Evolutionary line, which is not guaranteed. Once you’ve Mega-Evolved a Pokémon for the first time, it’s possible to Mega Evolve them without using Mega Energy. However, we appreciate you for sharing your experience with us.”

Buddy Mega Energy—has this always been true?!

It seems like this is not the first time support has provided misleading information, and this has left many Trainers frustrated. As dedicated players, we expect accurate and helpful guidance from the support team to enhance our gaming experience. So, remember, you can indeed obtain Mega Energy for your Mega Evolved Pokemon by walking with Buddy Pokemon from the same Evolutionary line.
