Pokémon GO player gets blocked for using school email to login, a PSA on why school emails shouldn’t be used for gaming sign-ups

Heads up, Trainers! Imagine setting up your Pokémon GO account with your school email back in elementary school, only to find out you’re locked out now that you’re in high school. Yep, that’s the jam one player finds themselves in, and they’re asking for some sage advice.
Schools nationwide have been upping their cybersecurity game this year, big time. From state regulations to insurance requirements, educational institutions are locking down their networks like Fort Knox. So, if you’ve used your school email for, well, anything other than school, you might be in for a rude awakening.
First off, let’s put this in bold: Never use your school email for anything other than academic needs. Seriously, that’s a message that should be delivered to students like a recurring calendar invite, yearly, if not more often.
Now, let’s get to the fix. The Pokémon GO Community on Facebook, a group full of resourceful souls, suggests getting in touch with the school district’s IT department. These are the wizards who can potentially unblock your account. And once you regain access (fingers crossed!), don’t forget to switch to a new login account that’s not connected to your school.
So, lesson learned? Stick to your personal email for your Pokémon GO adventures. That way, the only thing you’ll have to worry about is whether you’ve got enough Poké Balls for that rare spawn.
Pretty lame that students do not already know that. Even more pathetic that the school district allowed the student to receive email from outside the district. Actually illegal depending on how old the student was when he started the Pokémon account with his school email address.
