Slumbering Sands in Pokémon GO revealed, new Costumed Pokémon and Shiny Komala debuts

With no set schedule, any time is a good time for an event announcement, and that is exactly what Niantic did.

As it is now officially known, starting June 7, 2024, and ending June 12, 2024, Pokémon GO will be hosting an event called Slumbering Sands, where Trainers will have an opportunity to meet up with a bunch of new Pokémon. Some of them are costumed Pokémon, but one particular Pokémon will be making its Shiny debut.

Well, it is a good event to start with, plus there will be a lot of perks that you should take advantage of. Yes, there will be a Paid Timed Research, but there will also be a Timed Research available exclusively to Trainers who own Pokémon GO Plus+.

Timed Research

This particular Timed Research is going to be available to those who connect a Pokémon GO Plus+ device, where they can use the auto-throw function to throw PokéBalls at wild Pokémon. There is also an auto-spin function that automatically spins PokéStops. Right after you pair your Pokémon GO Plus+ device, you can immediately participate in the Timed Research which will reward Stardust and encounters with event-themed Pokémon. Not all event-themed Pokémon are available though, only a few.

Keep in mind that this Timed Research can be completed until June 14, 2024.

Paid Timed Research

The participating ticket costs $2, and if you decide to buy it you will be granted access to the event-exclusive Timed Research which will reward you with several Pokémon encounters, as well as an avatar item.

  • Komala Backpack avatar item

  • Stardust, XP, Silver Pinap Berries and more

Just like the previous Timed Research, this too has an expiration date, and Trainers must claim and complete it before June 12, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. local time.

Collection Challenge

This time Trainers will not be having multiple Collection Challenges, so there will be only one, which will be event-themed. Completing it will reward Trainers Stardust, XP and an encounter with Komala.

PokéStop Showcases

PokéStop Showcases will be all around the world during the Slumbering Sands event. However, only event-themed Pokémon will be eligible to enter.

Last but not least, Trainers that have a PTC account can now log in to the Pokémon GO Web Store, and use the same credentials used to log in to Pokémon GO. The first web store purchase will have a 15% discount on any item that costs $9.99 or more.
