Blackout and Overwatch may become free-to-play very soon

There’s a reason why Free-to-play video games have the biggest success ever. This writing is provoked by games such as Black Ops 4, who at their prime time (launch) tend to explode, while later they fall like a pear under a tree.

Namely, a free-to-play video game is not always the underdog in terms of content included. Sometimes, a free-to-play video game may monetize a lot better with just microtransactions in it, than any other title that sells for quite a high amount of money, plus has an inclusion of cheesy microtransactions.

Apparently, we’re not living in that kind of world anymore. It has been proved numerous times in 2018, and it just continues the same path in 2019. Namely, Fortnite’s success is one of the firm examples to learn from and maybe adopt it as an option in your arsenal.

However, there’s a big difference. Having a video game with a free-to-play model since launch and having a game that converts its model to free-to-play it’s completely different, and it is quite common to experience a rough backlash after the conversion.

It will most likely hurt the community and disappoint those who have paid for that particular video game title.

This writing is also made based on Michael Pachter’s recent discoveries, and as he stated, games who belong to Blizzard may swap their current model any time now.

For those who are not familiar with Michael Pachter, he is an American video game, social media, digital media and electronics analyst with Wedbush Securities.

In a recent Gamesindustry interview, he stated that Overwatch and Blackout, Black Ops 4 Battle Royale, may both become free-to-play titles.

If this by any needs happens to hold the truth, then we should prepare for what’s about to happen next. These two changes may lead to a whole new epiphany, and 2019 may be the year to include the largest twists in the gaming industry.

Then, the only scary part would be the cheaters and their possible influence on free-to-play video games, or the lack of effectiveness caused by a continuously failing anti-cheat system. That’s why we believe whether or not you’re a triple-A developing company, you should always adopt a third-party anti-cheat software such as EasyAntiCheat or BattleEye. Their fight against cheaters is decent.

With all of this being said, we’re probably grinding to yet another thunderous year. What are your thoughts on this, do not forget to leave comments below!

I am ANGE1K. I started playing video games a long time ago. In a blink of an eye, I became a hardcore gamer. A couple of years later, I traversed to the professional Counter-Strike 1.6 scene. After the competitive ERA, I managed to find the gaming industry amusing and started working on FGR. 8 years after founding FGR, my mission remains the same. That is to discover secrets within the gaming industry, create guides for all the games I play, and provide you with some important news. Oh, yeah, I post tons of patch notes too. At the time, I play everything that seems reasonable to play, make content about it and help gamers to the best of my abilities. P.S. Last time I counted how many hours I've spent in video games turned out to be 13+ years. And that was a long time ago too. Almost 24/7 in front of PC.
