Competitive Mode is Coming to Valorant, Ranks Revealed

Valorant, a first-person tactical shooter that has everything it takes to be successful, but missing one crucial part. That is a competitive game mode, otherwise known as ranked matchmaking. Riot Games has expressed its statement regarding the question, and it seems that competitive matchmaking is about to arrive very soon.

Currently, in closed beta, Valorant does not include any matchmaking system or rating that would distinguish player skills or experience. It is hectic as it is, and sometimes public lobbies may lead to toxicity. But to give an answer to and satisfy the player base, Riot Games has already made plans about competitive matchmaking, scheduled to arrive with patch 0.49.

Just to notice, Valorant is currently in patch 0.47, in which character balances, bug fixes, and other issues were addressed. That is likely to be two more patches before the official arrival of the Competitive Game Mode.

In today’s update provided by Ian “Brighteyz” Fielding, Valorant’s competitive game mode will include ranks. Similar to CS GO, each rank will represent the experience and skill the player has, which will be accordingly given to his performance.

But, to unlock the competitive game mode and get to the very first rank, players will need to achieve some combat milestones. You can find them below:

  • Complete 20 Unrated matches to unlock Competitive mode
  • 8 ranks, 3 tiers each, except the top rank, VALORANT
  • Queue with up to 5-player parties must be within 2 ranks
  • Rank isn’t displayed if competitive matches aren’t played within 14 days, but your rank doesn’t decay behind the scenes.
  • Closed beta rank does not carry over to launch

Now, according to Riot Games, Valorant will get 8 ranks in total. Those are the following (low to high):

  • Iron
  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Platinum
  • Diamond
  • Immortal
  • VALORANT

Ranked Matchmaking in Valorant is something Riot Games wanted to develop since the get-go but was unavailable due to the lower player base. What’s exciting to know is that Riot Games will push the fight to severe heights in fighting against smurfs. Smurf combatants will continuously be under pressure, so the big picture won’t incline boosted accounts to be a part of high skill games.

I am ANGE1K. I started playing video games a long time ago. In a blink of an eye, I became a hardcore gamer. A couple of years later, I traversed to the professional Counter-Strike 1.6 scene. After the competitive ERA, I managed to find the gaming industry amusing and started working on FGR. 8 years after founding FGR, my mission remains the same. That is to discover secrets within the gaming industry, create guides for all the games I play, and provide you with some important news. Oh, yeah, I post tons of patch notes too. At the time, I play everything that seems reasonable to play, make content about it and help gamers to the best of my abilities. P.S. Last time I counted how many hours I've spent in video games turned out to be 13+ years. And that was a long time ago too. Almost 24/7 in front of PC.
