High Octane Drift Review: One of the Hardest Drifting Games

We decided to hop into High Octane Drift as soon as the game was released as an early access game on Steam. It’s an excellent 3d simulation game and really like h***. The only problem is since we started playing it, the difficulties were confirmed. Controlling the car in this game was a real pain. The game is small, and it takes approx. 1.3g of HD space. What’s more important, it’s made on Unity engine by Cruderocks, a new small company that made a significant promise for the upcoming years. High Octane Drift Review

Well, the game looked somewhat lovely since the beginning. It was a little bit of a problem joining the game on NA servers, but after the connection went through we were able to play. Keep in mind that you are limited to play on NA servers because it’s still in early access. In the beginning, you will get tips, and it will ask you to choose a graphics option, all the way from fastest to most beautiful. It’s yours to decide, and we think the game is 99% playable on a low budget PC. If you do not select anything, you’ll get the default settings. First of all, you start in a garage with your stock car ready for a drive. You can see the image below.

High Octane Drift has a lot of potentials to grow big and outrun some other driving games, ofc if the developers continue to listen to the players and fix their needs. Speaking of drifting, every single gamer that loves racing games cannot go against it. Well, the big surprise for all of those players is that in this game they will start to sweat. Every single core gamer that loves racing games will be amazed at the difficulty this game offers. Someone will master it, but someone will struggle while trying to find a way to perform the best possible drift.

What is more important is that the developers are really trying hard to bring the players a nice drifting experience, making the game a lot better by fixing bugs, updating the game frequently and listening to the community. The community makes the game, not the other way around. Even bigger companies have failed by acting crazy and not listening to the player’s needs. It’s a good start, and they need to keep it up.

Tuning Your Car

Yes, shopping, tweaking, fixing, adding different layers, coloring rims, spoilers… everything is possible in this game. You can see all of the options this game offers in the video below. Some of the features might not be working as it is still in open beta. However, another thing that every single game loves to do. Customizing your car with different colors is a possibility right now. For doing that, you are going to be needed Greens or Rupees which can be earned throughout playing the game. The sad part is that we did not try this game against another player because it took ages to find an opponent.

High Octane Drift Graphics

They are falling behind in this part, but hey, we are talking about a new and small developing company. As we started playing the game, we enjoy it. 3 of our gamers were competing against each other while playing the practice mode. We can say that you can enjoy the graphics as it is somewhere between a grade of 5/10. The textures, shadows, everything looks nice but still, there might be a possibility to fix it and make it even better. Adding a bit to the surroundings should not hurt that much for the gamers with lower pc specs. Fixing those road stripes could be a big deal too. Also, adding a more realistic grass should do the job.

High Octane Drift Sound

This is where they fall off for a more significant step. The sound seems more static; even when shifting through the gears, it stays the same. Sometimes it’s also getting stuck. What is more important is that it kind of hurts on the ears and I was not able to find any options to lower down the volume. We hope we are wrong about this. The next part is the in-game menu sound. You can hear it in the video below, it’s making my ears go crazy, but hey, it’s only the beginning of a new company with a new game on the market that promises a lot.

We are pretty sure that the sound is going to be fixed shortly since they release a lot of updates and fixes whenever possible. That’s why is still in early access, right?

We know the game it’s in early access, but hey, you are probably going to be able to team up with players. A feature that will be probably released as soon as possible while the early access is still online.
