Niantic Claims Draconius Go is a Copyright Violation of Pokemon Go

Draconius Go is a free to play mobile game, both available for iOS and Android users, developed by Elyland, a Ukranian company, that has been out there for almost 11 years now, and they’re creating, releasing and promoting their projects all by themselves.

Their latest project is the mobile game Draconius Go: Catch a Dragon! and since the release, the game’s stats are going higher and higher, meaning a lot of players have downloaded the game and it has 4.5 out of 5 stars rating. The playstyle is very similar to Pokemon Go, but it has a lot of different things such as quests, portals, PvP battles and players can cast a joint spell from one to another point that affects other players.

Lately, a lot of Pokemon Go Trainers have been posting screenshots of Draconius Go, saying that Draconius Go is better for rural players and overall, and some of them switched from Pokemon Go to Draconius Go. It was just a matter of time for Niantic to strike back by sending the following to Draconius Go’s developers:

We’ve received an un-grounded complaint from Niantic in the Appstore — they think we’ve violated their copyright. However, we didn’t use their coding or graphics when developing our product, it’s absolutely original. The developers of this popular GO game seem to think that they own the exclusive rights for the whole AR genre. It’s not like that. We believe that the market and players will only benefit from healthy competition. When we developed this game, we consulted leading world-class lawyers, and we are 100% certain that Niantic’s claim is unjustified. Niantic’s reaction shows that they consider us as a serious rival. By doing so, they actually prove that our product is better. In just one year, our Ukrainian team has managed to do more than Niantic, with all their billions of income. And we are proud of our results. Our graphic is unique and better quality than in any other AR games. Besides, our game offers a variety of game mechanics that were never used in other AR games. We hear and understand our players, we offer them an interesting gameplay. That’s what makes us special. We hope that our rivals will start improving their own games instead of making complaints and ignoring their fans. Currently, we are preparing new updates that we hope will make our players happy in the nearest future.

To be honest, the game does look like Pokemon Go, but Draconius Go is with its own map that stores the maps of the world on one server, making them available to players almost instantly.

The game has reached over 50.000 downloads, and its community is growing fast!

  1. I bet its framerate is better than Pokémon GO, Niantic never gives a s*** about fans’ complaints about it

    1. It runs like a dream. Easily better coded and designed than Pokemon GO. The only downside so far is that the ball throwing, while smooth like everything else, feels really clunky because the ball seems like it weighs 500 pounds.

      1. I agree. Runs much better on my phone the Pogo. If Niantic wants to b**** because the layout is practically the same, well it made it much easier for me to get into Dracgo. I love the smoothness, the monsters, the proliferation of stuff on my map (and I’m not really rural) and how many more features that are in this. I hope this isn’t because it’s AR, a walking game, or about collecting monsters, because they once said they looked forward to other companies releasing AR games like Pogo, but now that one is out and does it better, they all of a sudden have an issue.

  2. It is a vast improvement on pokemon go, if they stole it why does it have so many features that are not in pokemon go ?

  3. Competition is good. If Niantic pulls a King game (makers of Candy Crush) move by trademarking the word Go, lots of people will be pissed.
