Niantic Confirms Pokemon Go 8-bit Graphics Will be Restored

The new graphics engine in Pokemon Go was released on March 31, and as confirmed by Niantic support, this retro style will be staying with us for one more week.

The new 8-bit Gameboy style Pokemon is something new in Pokemon Go and not all players are enjoying this style. Some want the 8-bit to be a feature, while some want everything to go back to normal. In the end, both sides are going to be pleased, the new engine will stay until April 7, meaning it will not be implemented as a new feature.

Niantic Support confirmed this, sending an email:

We’re sorry for the confusion. If Pokemon Go is looking a bit silly today, it’s because we are celebrating April Fools’ Day with a nostalgic tribute to Pokemon’s roots.

Please note that all graphics will be restored after the celebrations end on April 7, 2018.”
