Paladins: Champions of the Realm Complete Review

Ah… Paladins… I must tell you that I am writing this Paladins Review while my game is still minimized. So, I really do not know where to begin, but I will try to do my best review and cover this game as much as I can. I will keep the article updated, do not worry at all because my job is to make you enjoy reading Paladins Champions of the Realm Complete Review, just as the title says.

Paladins Champions of the Realm Complete Review

It’s a game made by Hi-Rez Studios, the same gaming house that created Smite. What we know so far is that this game is still in an Open Beta. It’s a first person shooter made in a colorful sci-fi setting featuring Champions that have different abilities. The combat is mostly Skill Shot based, but believe me, If you do not know your role and If you do not have let’s say for instance Tank or Front Line in your team, it will be extremely difficult for your team to win the game. Why? Because it is a first person shooter, yes, but also an RPG and that’s why you need to work as a team!

This is the best game I have ever played and I like it very much. Tried Overwatch, but did not play it for so long. Do not know why really. I do not want to say anything bad for Overwatch as both of the games are really cool. But, I would personally go with Paladins, as I like free game communities.

Overall I would like to rate this game with a pure 10. There haven’t been a single game that kept me pumped with adrenaline for so long. Believe me, this can be the right choice for you, especially if you are bomb-tempered person. You can download this game through Steam or you can go to Hi-Rez Studios official website and get it from there.

What is your objective in Paladins?

5 vs 5 players, found and gathered by matchmaking. You will be able to play competitive matches too, but more about that I will drop an update over here explaining is it better or not, I am really close to getting the competitive button ready.

pick-champion

Five guys, each guy plays different role, Front Line, Support, Flank and Damage Champions. You can see more about it below in this article. Each champion got his own abilities or spells, including different cards which will help you tweak your champion a bit more. You will need to work together to secure the Payload by sticking on the capture point and try to push their team out of it. You need to stay on the capture point until the bar on the top of the screen counts to 100. But, if one of the teams get close to 99 and if there are players on the capture point from the opposite team, a 6 second timeout starts to count. So you need to push those players out of the point or kill them to take the capture point successfully. Do not be so excited in the beginning, because until you reach level 5, you will be playing against bots. After that, the fun part comes (believe me, it comes for sure).

Capturing the point

After you secure your objective, a Payload will drop on the capture point and It will not move at all unless you have players close to it (at least one). In a time of 2 minutes, you will need to push that Payload up to their base point while clearing the way by taking care of the opponents (they will respawn all the time and run to the payload in order to stop it). If you successfully do that, you will get two points. The first point you get is for capturing and securing the objective (the payload) and the other for pushing it all the way to their base point. The payload is immune to damage and you do not need to be worried about that. You just need to have players around it to move it. If you don’t, the payload is stopped and pushed by the other team (not with the same amount of speed like you).

What is going to happen if you fail pushing the Payload all the way to the needed point? Well, after those 2 minutes you will get the chance to get a 6 seconds timeout, which means if you have players close to the Payload the timeout will reset or stick at 6 seconds. But, if you get killed and there are no players to get close to the Payload, those 6 seconds starts to countdown and you basically will fail to finish the second objective.

Can I play competitive mode in this game? Ofc, the only problem with this is that you need to have at least 12 Champions with mastery level 4 or above. Then, you can hop in the competitive matchmaking.

Paladins Champions and their type of gameplay

As we said above, you have different type of Champions: Front Line, Flank, Damage and a Support.

I guess you all played different role playing games… at least you tried some of them.

Front Line

Your job is to tank on the objective point as much as possible. All of the tanks got a shielding ability which will help their teammates secure the capture point and take the objective. Basically said, you need to cover the others from getting killed while they are trying to take the objective (even though that’s gonna be hard, you might want just to stick on the capture point. That’s all you need to do. Having a healer on your team might help by a lot.

Flank – my favorite

Playing flanker means you need to flank the other team. For an instance, let’s say they have ranged heroes like Kinessa (1300+ dps per shot) or  Cassie, both can deal insane amount of damage. What you need to do is take them out as fast as you can, which is going to help your team to survive and take the objective. You must not fail at this at all. After you do that, you will need to still continue flanking, maybe even interrupt them immediately after the respawn and try to eliminate them again. Then, their lineup will be broken and they will be pushed to move away from the objective (in order to save the guys being flanked).

Damage

Dps as dps, you all know our objective right? You just need to rip apart the other team. You may flank too, but being behind the tank and helping him survive will be the right choice if you ask me. Otherwise, the tank will die and if that happens say goodbye to the objective.

Support

Personally I am amazed of the support roles because they can pretty much sometimes carry the game. But, you would love to get a support and stick close to the tank while healing him and helping secure the objective. Do not worry, supports can shoot too and you can kill enemies of course.

You can take a look of all the champions in the game (for the time being) below:

An updated image of the champions

Cards and Creating Different Playstyle for Each Champion:

This is the most exciting. Each champion contains it’s own different set of cards. Cards allows you to boost different Champion’s abilities, weapon reload time, cooldowns and lot more. Basically it means you can tweak your gameplay style. Each champion got 16 cards you can play with (see the image below).

On the left sided image you can see all the cards for Skye, while on the right side, you can see how you can tweak your cards. You have to spend 12 points on all of the cards together. So at this point I have (2-2-2-3-3) on those cards that i picked out. Not only that, you can have a lot of different Loadouts (Builds), which means you can create different and name them however you want it. So the next time you hop in the game you will be asked which Loadout you want to choose for that match. That will make you able to choose a Loadout that fits best against the other’s team lineup.

UPDATE: In this Paladins Review I was preparing an article for the style of play of each champion. I wanted to post it here, on the same review… but i changed my mind and I will make a new article about this only. I will try to explain how you should play with every single champion. There are going to be videos too. The article is kinda big and that’s why we are preparing it for a longer period of time. At the moment videos are still being uploaded on youtube. Stay put and do not forget to Subscribe to get all the news.

Crystals, Gold, Daily Rewards and Levels

Crystals and Gold

They can be used to buy different things in the game. For an instance you can buy a Champion set either for gold or crystals. Crystals can only be bought for real money or earned through a daily reward (see the picture below). Gold can be earned from playing the game and leveling up the mastery level on the characters. You can earn more gold by winning games. I do not have anything more to add for this. It’s pretty much understandable from the moment you jump in the game.

Also, keep in mind that you can buy cards with gold only. This means you need to play this game for a longer period of time to open all of the cards and be able to create different style of play. Do not worry, you can also get gold by daily consecutive logins in the game. You must not avoid 1 day, otherwise the rewards will be reset.

Paladins Daily Rewards

Levels

You can get levels and mastery levels too. Normal Leveling or let’s say an Account leveling can give you different type of chests. Mastery Levels are the levels on the character you play with. So as I said, for instance you will need to have 12 champions with mastery level 4 or above to play competitive matches. You can boost your mastery level by playing and winning games with the chosen champion. While getting the account levels up, for each level you will get a chest that can loot. With opening those chests you can get different types of champion’s cards and also get a rare drop like random skin for some of the champions.

Update: Paladins Maps

There are different maps that can be played within a different Game Modes. The maps are designed for 2 teams with 5 players. They have 3 different sections and each section of the maps (which basically means it’s 3 different maps). They have capture point in the middle (the one we have to fight for it) and the bases of the teams are located in closed or zoned portions at the both sides of the map. Near the bases there are the points where you need to push the Payload. Let’s just speak about those you are going to fight against different human players in competitive matchmaking. They are maps that are available if you play Siege. Siege is a round based game mode where each team work together to earn 4 Objective Points in total.

Temple Isle

This map is really crazy, and interesting things can happen on it. It’s one of the most fun and fastest maps to finish. This map can be easy for flankers, but also for damage dealers. Do not forget the healer by the way, healer should be always supporting the tank.

Frog Isle

If you ask me Frog isle is the shortest version of the map.

Sundial

This map is a different version of Temple Isle. It is happening on the same deserted island by the way… I can only say that the more balanced pick will win this map really easy.

Jaguar Falls

This map comes as a different version of Temple Isle which is also a good map for flankers and damage dealers. Drogoz is the right choice on this map, while cannot be flanked that easy and thanks to his abilities, he can burst the mid of the map really easy. Try it, you’ll see it’s working.

Enchanted Forest

This map is I guess the most balanced one by far. Long range, short range, everyone can do his job in here.

Glacier Keep

This map can be with fast pace too. The hardest part to hold is the last part where you get harassed from the snipers, if there is Kinessa on the other team you might wanna eliminate her first :).

Frozen Guard

Icy map, with a need for a balanced pick. Otherwise you won’t make it.

UPDATE: Paladins Graphics

Since I forgot to say anything about the graphics in this Review, I will add it right now in this article update. The game looks childish (cause of the colorful image), yes, but the graphics are definitely nice. There are some particles that are going to make you love this game even more, believe me. We can all make comparisons to different games any time we want. What are WoW players talking about their game or LoL players talking about League of Legends. There is Overwatch too with the same type and colorful graphics (this is not comparing, every game weighs on her own). I can tell you only 1 thing. Childish graphics are always up there on the market, sticking with the best. Below you can find the minimum and recommended requirements for this game.

I personally do not know why is that so, but all I can say is:

  • The moment I started playing this game, I felt adrenaline pumping all over my body :). Colorful or not, it doesn’t matter. The fast pace and style of the game are going to make you go crazy.

This is the last thing about this Paladins Review. See you in the next article ASAP. Videos are still uploading on youtube :).

I hope you like this complete review of the Paladins: Champions of the Realm. That’s almost everything I can remember at this time. But, I am pretty sure there will be more to come. Do not forget to visit our facebook page and follow us on twitter. We are also doing live streams on our facebook page, you might love them. I am even thinking about making a complete guide of all of the characters. Maybe in near future this will happen.
