Two Men Robbed at Gunpoint While Playing Pokemon Go

A police report from Cleveland, Ohio says that two men were robbed while playing Pokemon Go.

These two men, aged 20 and 30, said that this horrible robbery happened around 1 AM on Monday, July 23, on Scranton Road and Corning Avenue. While playing the popular game Pokemon Go, they both were looking at their phone, when suddenly the two robbers walked up behind them.

The one that was wearing a bandana over his face said: “Do not move and empty your pockets,” reports say.

When the robbers walked in front of them, they went through the men’s pockets and pointed a gun in their faces. The robbers took these innocent men’s cellphones. Then, an anonymous witness called the police and stated that they saw the robbery and how the robbers went into a white Kia and drove away.

This game uses the player’s location through the phone’s GPS and introduced them to a real-life location. Recently, Niantic introduced the ‘Gift’ ability and now players can see exactly where a player sent a gift from. In the past, the players of this game had a limited access to this kind of information, but with this update, the exact location is highlighted on the map.

The new Gift feature does feel like an insavison on privacy, and I really hope that Niantic will make some changes – ASAP! So be careful when sending Gifts to unknown people and stay safe out there!
