Trainers, a new set of Field Research tasks and rewards are going live on January 1 featuring new encounters, shiny Pokemon, new Spinda form and more. Also, starting from January 1 until February 1, Lapras will be available as a Research Breakthrough encounter.
January’s Field Research tasks and rewards are going live on January 1 at 1 PMÂ PST and from January 1 until February 1 players will have a chance to catch Lapras as Research Breakthrough encounter. In addition, Lapras will know Ice Shard or Ice Beam moves.
Niantic announced that Lapras that know Ice Shard or Ice Beam will be available as Research Breakthrough.”They also confirmed that Lapras can have both moves.

- Take a snapshot of your buddy: Snover
- Earn 5 hearts with your buddy: Stantler
- Catch 3 different species of Ice-type Pokemon: 3 Rare Candy
- Catch 3 Normal, Water, or Ice-type Pokemon: Dewgong
- Catch 5 Fire-type Pokemon: Snorunt
- Catch 5 Pokemon with Weather Boost: Poliwag, Vulpix
- Catch a Dragon-type Pokemon: Dratini
- Catch 10 Pokemon: Magikarp
- Make 5 Great Curveball Throws in a row: Spinda #7
- Make 5 Nice Throws: Voltorb
- Make 3 Excellent Throws in a row: Larvitar
- Make 3 Great Throws in a row: Onix
- Make 3 Great Throw:s Lileep, Anorith, Gastly
- Defeat a Team Rocket Grunt: Sneasel
- Battle another trainer 3 times: Shellder
- Battle in a raid: Swinub
- Win a Level 3 or higher raid: Kabuto, Omanyte

- Win a Gym Battle: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle
