This year’s World Water Day is on March 22, and just like the last year, Niantic and Pokemon Go will be hosting a global Pokemon Go Water Festival featuring new Gen 3 Water Type Pokemon. This is yet to be confirmed, but following Niantic’s pattern we’re definitely going to witness a new event and who knows, we might even see a new shiny Pokemon.
The very first Pokemon Go Water Festival went live on March 22 last year, featuring Magikarp, Squirtle, Totodile and more Water Type Pokemon with increased spawn rate for a limited time. The event started on March 22 and ended on March 29, and for that event, Pokemon Go players successfully caught 589 million Magikarp.
Great work, Trainers! Collectively, you caught over 589 million Magikarp during the #PokemonGO Water Festival.

But that was last year, and I really hope that most of you already have a Lapras or shiny Magikarp (spotted in the wild two days after the event started).
This year, Niantic and Pokemon Go will be hosting a new Water Festival, but this time Pokemon Go’s community want to see new Gen 3 Water Type Pokemon with increased spawn rate and new shiny forms. There are still a lot of Gen 3 Pokemon waiting to debut in the game(8 + 7 Legendary/Mythical), and this is the perfect time for us to see and catch Clamperl, Huntail and Gorebyss for the first time.
And that’s not all. Spring Equinox is two days before the World Water Day, and this could mean two things – Regional Rotation and two events in three days! In addition, Bulbasaur event is going live on March 25 for three hours, so it looks like this month will be great for all Trainers.
So until an official statement, stock up on PokeBalls and all aboard the Hype Train!
