Valve’s Banhammer is Thirsty for Blood, 17,000 Accounts Reset and Banned
The developer of Dota 2 Valve Corporation reset and banned around 17,000 accounts for abusing matchmaking to get into ranked. This is also known as “smurfing” in gaming world.
“Smurfing” is when a high-skilled player creates a new account so he/she could match with low level, inexperienced players for easy wins and reach higher levels faster.
After reaching higher levels, these “smurf” accounts are being sold to players who don’t feel like grinding or spending much time to reach the RANKED matchmaking system. This can be described as account buying and is against the rules.
The “smurf” accounts are being banned for 5 years, until 2024.
