After 12 years working on World of Warcraft, the director Tom Chilton has given his resign from the MMO team, but he is still working for Blizzard assigned on a new game. The game designer Ion Hazzikostas is now promoted to WoW director.
“My personal journey working on WoW as Game Director is at an end, but my journey with Blizzard isn’t.
I’ll still be here, but will be focusing on another project within the company.
I know that WoW will be in great hands with Ion at the helm.
He’s been an integral part of the team for more than eight years and has contributed to so many aspects of the game’s development—from class design to encounter design and nearly everything in between.
He also has an amazing team at his side—the same epic crew that brought you all the content you’re enjoying in Legion”, Tom  Chilton has said.
Tom Chilton’s history at Blizzard’s World of Warcraft
Tom Chilton started his career on EA Ultima Online, so after in 2004 he joins Blizzard. He started as a Senior game designer before the game was even released. Tom Chilton was working on the first expansion World of Warcraft The Burning Crusade with six other team members, game designers. Then the second expansion was released Wrath of the Lich King and Tom Chilton had a role as a Lead game designer. Since the last expansion Cataclysm, he was assigned as Game director.
