Xbox Series X GPU Source Code Stolen, AMD Issues DMCA Takedown

Apparently, a hacker has managed to steal the Xbox Series X GPU Code and now holds it to ransom, AMD has announced this in a public post today, confirming the takedown of the already posted source code on two Github repos.

The person having the source code requires a buyer for it, and if he doesn’t get one, he will be pushed to dump the whole code online. This was confirmed to Torrentfreak earlier today. AMD’s statement has assured the breach yesterday, but was kept as a secret for a more extended period, or, since December 2019.

At AMD, data security and the protection of our intellectual property are a priority. In December 2019, we were contacted by someone who claimed to have test files related to a subset of our current and future graphics products, some of which were recently posted online, but have since been taken down.

While we are aware the perpetrator has additional files that have not been made public, we believe the stolen graphics IP is not core to the competitiveness or security of our graphics products. We are not aware of the perpetrator possessing any other AMD IP.

We are working closely with law enforcement officials and other experts as a part of an ongoing criminal investigation.

This is a very scary situation for the future of the AMD GPUs, as the code not only weighs the power of the current GPUs, but also the future ones. The DMCA issue has instructed Github to delete the repository, which opens further questions about the security breach itself.

The DMCA Takedown requiring from Github to remove the repo can be found here.

It’s AMD’s IP that was stolen, and they’re in the urge of seeking for a rightful recovery, which explains the situation of such rush. The DMCA issue also proves that it’s a word of infringement, which doesn’t hold the hacker to post yet another batch of the stolen code.

That is to discover secrets within the gaming industry, create guides for all the games I play, and provide you with some important news. Oh, yeah, I post tons of patch notes too. At the time, I play everything that seems reasonable to play, make content about it and help gamers to the best of my abilities. P.S.
