Pokémon GO Winter Holiday attire Psyduck locked behind a paywall

Trainers gearing up for Pokémon GO’s Winter Holiday Part 1 event, starting December 18 and running until December 25, 2023, have something special to look forward to, a new costumed Pokémon, Psyduck, decked out in holiday attire. But there’s a twist, getting the new costumed Psyduck isn’t as simple as catching it in the wild.

To add this holiday-themed Psyduck to your collection, you’ll need to purchase a ticket for the event’s Timed Research. The Winter Holiday Part 1 event offers different Timed Research storylines, including one that lets you pick between 2× XP or 2× Stardust for catching Pokémon.

However, to get the costumed Psyduck, you’ll have to choose one of the two available tickets:

  • Ticket 1: Priced at US$2.00 (or equivalent), this ticket gives you access to exclusive two-part Timed Research for both parts of the Winter Holiday event. Part 1 rewards include encounters with Spheal in a holiday scarf, Cryogonal, and the new costumed Psyduck, plus two Premium Battle Passes. For Part 2, expect encounters with Psyduck in holiday attire, Cubchoo with a holiday ribbon, and more Premium Battle Passes.
  • Ticket 2: This ticket, costing US$5.00 (or equivalent), unlocks event-exclusive Timed Research. Completing these tasks earns you an event-themed avatar pose, 2× Candy for catching Pokémon, and encounters with Pokémon like holiday-dressed Pikachu and Delibird, plus an early chance to catch the Winter Holiday attire Psyduck.

So, if you’re eager to get your hands on this unique version of Psyduck, be prepared to spend a little. It’s an interesting move from Niantic, adding a bit of a challenge (and expense) to catching this festive Pokémon. Let’s hope they might release it in the wild in the second part of the event for those who prefer the thrill of the hunt without the price tag.

Please note that Timed Research expires. The tasks associated with this Timed Research must be completed and their rewards must be claimed before Sunday, December 31, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. local time.
