Mortal Kombat 1 To Miss Cross-Play at Launch, Promises Feature in Future Update

The excitement around NetherRealm Studios’ soon-to-be-released Mortal Kombat 1 is huge, especially following the compelling new trailer recently unveiled by the studio and WB Games.

In a recent announcement, NetherRealm Studios confirmed that Mortal Kombat 1 would not feature cross-play at launch. This means that gamers on different platforms, be it PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, or PC, won’t have the option to compete against one another, at least initially.

However, this isn’t the end of the cross-play saga for the game. The developers have assured the community that they are “hard at work” to incorporate the cross-play feature. The timeline for its introduction remains a mystery, with the studio only stating that it will come as part of a post-launch update.

Mortal Kombat 1’s launch is on the horizon, with the game set to release on September 19 across multiple platforms. Those who have procured the Premium Edition won’t have to wait as long; they’ll be treated to early access from September 14.

The official Mortal Kombat Twitter handle tweeted about the issue, stating, “Launch is just around the corner and we can’t wait for everyone to sink their teeth into #MK1. Regarding Kross-Play, it will not be available at launch, but know we are hard at work at implementing the feature into the game and it will be koming post launch.
