Bungie’s struggle with underperformance may trigger further layoffs

Rumor has it that Bungie’s underperformance in Destiny 2: The Final Shape could lead to more layoffs at Bungie shortly after it was announced that Marathon directors got replaced.

The Final Shape has been pushed back to meet Bungie’s quality standards, but the decision might be brutal for the studio, as it could be an indicator of something going wrong within. Bungie is in a lot of trouble these days, as multiple sources say something is happening.

Moreover, it seems that the studio’s leadership will depart in the Summer of 2026. Either way, the company is in a good mood and is looking forward to The Final Shape’s release on June 4. As reported by IGN, there are fears of layoffs already brewing, which are likely to be present if the game fails after its release.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape will launch on June 4, 2024.
