NewsVideo Game Updates & Patch Notes

Overwatch gets an enhancements update for Xbox Series X/S, but not the PS5!?

Overwatch received a significant update on the Xbox Series X/S today, but the PS5 version didn’t get anything. This update improves your Overwatch experience, adding three different graphical and performance presets Resolution, Balanced, and Framerate.

Here’s what these presets offer:

  • Resolution: This mode prefers higher-resolution output at the cost of some image-quality (Series X: 4K @ 60Hz, Series S: 1440p @ 60Hz)
  • Balanced: This mode prefers image-quality at the cost of resolution (Series X: 1440p @ 60Hz, Series S: 1080p @ 60Hz)
  • Framerate: This mode prefers higher frame-rate at 120 frames-per-second at the cost of both image-quality and resolution (Series X: 1440p @ 120Hz, Series S: 1080p @ 120Hz)

However, it would be best if you had a TV that supports 120Hz or VRR (variable refresh rate) to take advantage of the Framerate mode fully. This significant update will make Overwatch feel like more of a new-gen game on your console. However, Blizzard hasn’t given us any signs on why they’ve excluded the PS5 for an update like this. We hope that it’s going to get an improvement like this soon.
