PS5 leads around 3:1 to Xbox Series X|S in Sales

The console of my childhood was, and still is the best one out there, and the numbers are here to prove that.

According to the latest estimates from VGChartz, the PlayStation 5 is still the best-selling console worldwide, with a whopping 1,228,434 units sold in October 2023. The PS5’s lifetime sales have now increased to an impressive 45.37 million units across the globe.

In terms of global standings, the PlayStation 5 leads the pack with 1,228,434 units sold in October and a lifetime total of 45.37 million. The Nintendo Switch follows with 868,471 units sold, accumulating a lifetime total of 131.25 million. The Xbox Series X|S sold 412,119 units, bringing its lifetime sales to 24.33 million, while the PlayStation 4 managed 19,137 units, pushing its lifetime sales to 117.15 million.

Comparatively, the PS5 sales for October 2023 were down by 80,000 units compared to the PS4 October 2016 figures. The Xbox Series X|S faced a more significant drop, down by nearly 393,000 units compared to the Xbox One October 2016 sales. Looking at the same month last year, the PS5 showed an increase of 112,520 units (10.1%), while the Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch experienced decreases of 135,268 units (-24.7%) and 58,636 units (-6.3%), respectively. The PS4 saw an increase of 5,601 units (41.4%) year-over-year.

In a monthly sales snapshot, the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch all faced declines, with the PS5 down by 544,000 units, the Xbox Series X|S down by 262,000 units, and the Nintendo Switch down by 128,000 units. It’s essential to note that October had four weeks, while September had five.

For the year-to-date sales in 2023, the PS5 has sold an estimated 14.36 million units, the Nintendo Switch has sold 10.89 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 4.61 million units.
