Insomniac Games Responds to Ransomware Attack

Insomniac Games, a renowned video game developer, has become the latest victim of a criminal cyberattack. This incident arrives during the development of one of the most anticipated games, Marvel’s Wolverine for PlayStation 5. It raises serious concerns about data privacy and cyber security in the gaming industry.

Insomniac Games reported that the breach resulted in the theft of over 1 million files, including employees’ sensitive personal information and early development details of Marvel’s Wolverine. The ransomware attack threatens the privacy of those involved and puts the intellectual property crucial to the studio’s future at risk.

In a heartfelt statement released on social media, Insomniac Games expressed their dismay and frustration at the attack. The company acknowledged the emotional toll it has taken on the development team and emphasized their internal support system to help each other through this challenging time.

“Thank you for the outpouring of compassion and unwavering support. It’s deeply appreciated. We’re both saddened and angered about the recent criminal cyberattack on our studio and the emotional toll it’s taken on our dev team. We have focused inwardly for the last several days to support each other.”

Despite the setback, Insomniac Games remains resilient. They reassure fans that the development of Marvel’s Wolverine will continue as planned, albeit acknowledging that the project will evolve throughout its creation. The statement reflects a determination to deliver a product that meets the high standards expected by their audience.

“We want everyone to enjoy the games we develop as intended and as our players deserve. However, like Logan…Insomniac is resilient. Marvel’s Wolverine continues as planned. The game is in early production and will no doubt greatly evolve throughout development, as do all our plans.”

The statement concludes with a message of gratitude for the support from the gaming community and a promise to share official information about Marvel’s Wolverine when the time is right.

“On behalf of everyone at Insomniac, thank you for your ongoing support during this challenging time.”

I am ANGE1K. I started playing video games a long time ago. In a blink of an eye, I became a hardcore gamer. A couple of years later, I traversed to the professional Counter-Strike 1.6 scene. After the competitive ERA, I managed to find the gaming industry amusing and started working on FGR. 8 years after founding FGR, my mission remains the same. That is to discover secrets within the gaming industry, create guides for all the games I play, and provide you with some important news. Oh, yeah, I post tons of patch notes too. At the time, I play everything that seems reasonable to play, make content about it and help gamers to the best of my abilities. P.S. Last time I counted how many hours I've spent in video games turned out to be 13+ years. And that was a long time ago too. Almost 24/7 in front of PC.
