Capcom is ready for More Resident Evil Remakes

Capcom, the renowned video game publisher, has recently confirmed its intent to continue the trend of remaking classic Resident Evil titles. This announcement follows the significant commercial success of its previous remakes in the iconic survival horror series.

During a recent awards event in Japan, Yasuhiro Anpo, the director of the Resident Evil 4 remake, shed light on Capcom’s vision. When asked about expanding the series with additional remakes, Anpo responded affirmatively. We’ve released three remakes so far and they have all been received very well. Since it allows a modern audience to play these games, it is something I am happy to do as someone who loves these older games, and we want to continue doing more, he stated, as reported by IGN.

The trend of remakes began with Resident Evil 2, released in January 2019. This title not only revived the classic game for a new generation but also became Capcom’s third best-selling game ever, with sales surpassing 13.1 million copies as of September. Following its success, Capcom released the Resident Evil 3 remake in April 2020, which also fared well with eight million units sold.

The most recent addition, the Resident Evil 4 remake, launched in March and has rapidly become a favorite. It reached five million sales faster than any series entry since Resident Evil 5, which remains the third best-selling game in the franchise.

Anpo also highlighted the importance of player feedback in their development process. We are very grateful to users who are vocal about their opinions. It allows us to develop with the player’s opinion in mind, he explained.

While Capcom has not yet disclosed which titles will be remade next, anticipation is high among fans of the series. The commitment to blend nostalgic elements with modern gameplay enhancements has proven to be a successful formula for Capcom, resonating strongly with both long-time fans and new players.
