Discord Reveals Major Mobile Redesign For Improved Communication and Usability

Discord, a popular platform among gamers and digital communities, has introduced a significant overhaul to its mobile app, signifying a strategic shift towards improved user experience on handheld devices. This update, detailed in a recent blog post, reflects Discord’s response to the evolving needs of its growing Gen Z and millennial user base.

The new design showcases distinct navigation tabs immediately upon app launch, offering separate sections for servers, messages, and notifications and a ‘You’ tab for profile and settings adjustments. A standout feature is the global DM search function, enabling users to sift through messages, pins, attachments, and more without opening individual direct messages.

Responding to user demands, the update introduces ‘Midnight’, an OLED-friendly dark mode, aiming to reduce eye strain and battery usage. Recognizing the shift towards mobile usage, Discord’s update transforms the app into a more standalone experience rather than just a supplementary tool to the desktop version. The redesign addresses past limitations in speed, reliability, and feature availability on mobile.

Discord’s mobile redesign didn’t occur in isolation. It was heavily influenced by community input gathered through app reviews, surveys, and social media platforms like Reddit. This collaborative approach resulted in a mix of well-received features and some controversial changes, leading to continuous iterations based on user feedback.

I am ANGE1K. I started playing video games a long time ago. In a blink of an eye, I became a hardcore gamer. A couple of years later, I traversed to the professional Counter-Strike 1.6 scene. After the competitive ERA, I managed to find the gaming industry amusing and started working on FGR. 8 years after founding FGR, my mission remains the same. That is to discover secrets within the gaming industry, create guides for all the games I play, and provide you with some important news. Oh, yeah, I post tons of patch notes too. At the time, I play everything that seems reasonable to play, make content about it and help gamers to the best of my abilities. P.S. Last time I counted how many hours I've spent in video games turned out to be 13+ years. And that was a long time ago too. Almost 24/7 in front of PC.
