Hogwarts Legacy Gets High with Over 22 Million Units Sold Worldwide

The Harry Potter-Inspired RPG Triumphs Despite Controversy

Hogwarts Legacy, the open-world action RPG inspired by the Harry Potter universe, has crossed a significant milestone, selling over 22 million units globally. WB Games president David Haddad recently revealed this remarkable achievement in an interview with Variety.

Despite being one of the most controversial games of 2023, due to its association with Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and her transphobic views, Hogwarts Legacy has emerged as a top performer in the gaming industry. The game’s impressive sales figures underscore its widespread appeal and enduring fan base.

David Haddad expressed pride not just in the game’s sales figures but also in the joy it has brought to fans. “It delighted the fans so much,” Haddad said. He highlighted the game’s ability to bring the Harry Potter world to life in a new way, allowing players to immerse themselves in a familiar yet unique narrative. This innovative approach is likely a key factor behind the game’s remarkable resonance with its audience and its status as the best-selling game of the year worldwide.

In May, WB Games reported that Hogwarts Legacy had sold over 15 million units, generating over $1 billion in revenue. The game has maintained strong sales momentum since then. Given its success, it’s speculated that Avalanche Software, the developer behind “Hogwarts Legacy,” is working on a sequel or another major AAA game.
