Hogwarts Legacy Tops UK’s 2023 Game Charts, First in Ten Years to Outperform EA’s Football Title

2023 wrapped up with a surprising twist in the UK gaming charts. Hogwarts Legacy took the top spot as the UK’s biggest physical video game for the year, overtaking EA Sports FC 24.

Launched in February, Hogwarts Legacy landed on platforms like PS5, PC, and Xbox Series S and X. It seems the magic of Hogwarts was strong enough to outshine EA’s football title, which launched in September. This year marked a big change for EA Sports, stepping away from the FIFA brand for the first time in three decades.

It is worth noting that EA’s football game has not been dethroned from the top of the UK charts since 2013, until now. Although EA Sports FC 24 did not secure the top spot in boxed game sales, it is still a significant player in the industry. We anticipate receiving more comprehensive sales figures, including digital sales, in the near future., including digital sales, in the near future.

The PS5 version of Hogwarts Legacy was a significant contributor to its success, with other platforms like PS4 and Nintendo Switch following. With overall boxed video game sales in the UK hitting 12.76 million in 2023, there’s a lot to look out for in the detailed market data that will release, including insights into hardware performance and digital game sales.

Hogwarts Legacy also closed the year as the final weekly No.1, according to GfK data. Other big names like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe, and Spider-Man 2 also made the charts but saw week-on-week sales drops.

EA Sports FC 24, despite a dip in sales, remains a strong contender and it’ll be interesting to see how it fares when the digital sales figures come in. Stay tuned for more updates and insights into the gaming world.
