Niantic Is Ready For Pokemon GO’s Thanksgiving XP Event [Update]

After Pokemon GO’s Halloween special event boosted interest in the game, Niantic announces Thanksgiving event for all the fans of Pokemon GO.

Bringing it back up to the top 5 of the Highest Grossing charts, my words were that it was a no-brainer that Niantic will do more events just like it. And just a few weeks later, Niantic will do a Thanksgiving event, but more low-key behavior than what we saw from Halloween.

Official statement from Niantic about Pokemon GO Thanksgiving event

“It has been an incredible experience since we launched Pokémon GO a few short months ago in July. We are passionate about creating experiences that encourage exploration and promote exercise. We are humbled that hundreds of millions of you around the world have joined us on this journey. So we would like to say thank you – and what better way to say thank you than to celebrate our community. So, starting November 23rd at 00:00 UTC and going through November 30th 00:00 UTC. We will double the amount of XP and Stardust you receive when completing in-game actions.”

Just by reading this, we can see that this offer is not as involved as the Halloween event. This went by a “spooky” Pokemon and offered us a double candy throughout the entire Pokemon GO game. Even though this new Thanksgiving event is simple, there are some rewards.

While there are not any candy bonuses at all this time. There are double bonuses for two categories we have not seen before, XP and Stardust. It is a double increase, which means that the extent of the event. More or less a double XP weekend. But it encourages a return to play all the same given every action is twice as valuable as it was before.

Some players manage to get 50.000 to 60.000 XP from a “mass evolve” session. They pop an egg and evolve everything they ever had, from Pidgeys to Dragonites. Now, it is easier to be over 100.000 XP in one go, thanks to the new system.

If you are dying to get the Stardust upgrades, catching Pokemon and hatching eggs during this time will get you drowning in the dust soon. That candy is definitely the more important currency in Pokemon GO. It is what allows you to upgrade and evolve while going up in GO using XP is not that terrible.

But this is an interesting offer. I am dying to find out if the revenue will spike for this event. But in the end, it does not hurt to try.

Update: 23.Nov.2016

I’m really surprised when I see that trainers around the world have found Ditto. There is a lot of videos of Pokemon players on youtube how they caught some random Pokemon. After opening the Pokedex not really aware of what they own, real Ditto!

Important: About Ditto

Maybe you will spot some Pokemon that you already have and you are kind of lazy to catch. Not the same Pokemon that you don’t want to catch can be Ditto. Why? Because Ditto has the ability to transfer to any Pokemon and stay that way untill to have him in the Pokedex.

Also, a very important thing about Ditto about the gym. You have to be careful how you train him. His ability to absorb any movement or power from other Pokemon can affect the way how you handle him in the future. Be very cautious with who do you fight and train.

You can share your own Ditto pictures and videos in the comments below or on our Facebook page here.
