Pokemon Go New Rule for Gyms

Trainers, there is a bug that causes Gyms to be lost and many players are furious about it as it affected the gameplay. Now, according to NianticCasey, the Wayfarer team and the Pokemon Go team put their forces together to work and fix this issue.

NianticCasey stated that the Edits maintenance has been completed and the issue is now fixed. They came up with a new rule for Gyms and here is everything you should know:

Hi folks,

Sharing an update on this issue, since the Edits maintenance has been completed. The Wayfarer team confirmed that they worked with the Pokémon GO team to resolve this issue.

The new behavior is now that Pokémon GO will maintain a Wayspot’s Gym status unless the location edit would place it too close to other existing Gyms, in which case the moved Gym would be converted into a PokéStop.

Also, if someone had a Pokémon that was stuck in a converted Gym PokéStop, it should be released to them when the change happens.

Thanks for your patience!

Now, if you’re wondering what “too close to other existing Gyms” means, here Is the answer from NianticCasey:

Unfortunately, that’s all I can say. There is an algorithm that examines the population of the updated location and makes a determination of whether the Gym stays as is or is updated to be a PokéStop.

I know this is not the answer you want to hear, because it does not explain anything at all, and we hope that one day Niantic will publish the exact numbers for distance and how many Gyms can coexist at the same time at a specific distance and how you define that one.

Why can’t for once Niantic be straight forward with its player base? In the end, we are their players and I think we deserve to know more, right?
