Pokemon Go Developer Niantic Sued by NantWorks LLC over AR Tech Patents

The Pokemon Go developer Niantic is now being sued by NantWorks LLC due to the way that AR is used in both Pokemon Go and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.

According to Bloomberglaw, NantWorks LLC accused Niantic of infringing its patents with the AR tech in Pokemon Go and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.

In the lawsuit, filed by NantWorks LLC in a federal court in California on September 3, 2020, NantWorks LLC claims that they’ve been researching AR technology since 2011 and they own U.S Patent Nos. 10,403,501, 10,614,467 and 10,664,518 covering improvements to the technology.

NantWorks LLC has been working with augmented reality technology since 2011 and is dedicated to improving the technology, which covers patents allegedly infringed by Niantic, however this legal process is still early in its development, so fans will have to wait to see what happens.

Niantic has not yet made a public statement about the lawsuit.
